Royal Hua Hin Golf Course Description:Thailand's 1st course, constructed in 1924
Royal Hua Hin is the oldest 18-hole international standard course in Thailand and is only 5 minutes from Hua Hin city centre. The golf course construction started in 1924 to accommodate the interests of the British railway workers and Thai aristocracy and Royals, living in the local area. The golf course sits right next to the town's historic railway station. The course's designer was a Scottish railroad engineer, who was working on the main railway line from Bangkok at the time.
The Hua Hin golf course was designed to take on the natural terrain and set amongst some spectacular rocky hills and is of a more traditional older British golf course designs than most of the golf courses, in and around Hua Hin. Excellent views of the Gulf of Thailand and the city centre are possible from most of the holes, and there is also a Buddhist Temple on the hills you can see.
A recent change of ownership will bring this course back up to international standards, and be a joy to play again, despite the courses age. Mature tree lined fairways are now in abundance making for many shaded lies, and cooler arears to play from.
A warning, please do not think a visit to Thailand's oldest golf course will be an easy round of golf. Every golfer's game, whether you are a low handicap or high handicap will be tested here, with several tight tree-lined fairways, many tight dog-legging holes and small circular greens to hit. The greens are typically elevated. The bunkering is relatively modest, and the course condition might not be the same as some in the Hua Hin region, but Royal Hua Hin has some charming and enjoyable features in its right.
Beware of the Monkey`s, coming down from Mountains on the uphill par-4 13th. Alongside this fairway small macaque monkeys enjoy the bordering vegetation; they might also be seen running of into the distance with you golf balls. Owls watch on, from the trees, just beyond the green of the par-4 7th. At the signature par-3 14th and the par-5 3rd, here you can view Buddhist temples clinging to the sides of tree-clad hills. While one part of the course plays under the beautiful tree-clad rocky ridge, the other provides glimpses of the ocean from the two most elevated sections of the course.
The playing conditions can vary throughout the year, from being muddy, and golf balls stopping suddenly, in the rainy period to hard, with great golf ball run, when the course is at its peak in the winter months. Greens keeping is much more consistent year-round. English is spoken by nearly all the Staff at Hua Hin, as the course is popular amongst Tourists.
Snack kiosks are on every three holes, which offer comfortable rounds for all golfers. The Clubhouse makes for a nice 19th hole and to think about the golfers who have passed through the doors during the past century that Royal Hua Hin. The Clubhouse offers a good selection of food and beverages, putting green ,Men’s and Ladies Locker Rooms, ample Car Parking Royal Hua Hin is a course that should be played at least once by every golf traveller to the Hua Hin region, purely for its Historical value and great location.
